Husky trip to go ahead in March 2011

It’s been a while, but my husky trip has finally been rebooked for 9th March 2011.

I found out some truths about Global Adventure Challenges – i.e when there was a problem they did not want to get involved at all. When the volcano prevented the trip in April 2010, GAC could have claimed off their own insurance and repaid clients who had booked the trip, but they did not. They also refused to get involved with the insurance provider whom they had recommended, and became very vague when asked anything at all.

One of my questions was where did all the money go? – We had a team of 12 all paying at least £1800, which equals £21,600 in total. A staggering amount. If we take away flight costs, administration, and staff costs (even though the trip was cancelled and staff no longer had to work) we are still left with a large figure. I asked for a break down in where this money went to (as none of it was repaid to us). I am yet to receive an answer.

I did get most of my money back from my insurance – £1600, and Global did eventually sent me a cheque for the flights (about £80). But I am still at least £200 out of pocket.

As a result, almost all of our team of 12 decided to book through other tour providers. I am now set up with Nature Travels, and they have been good to me so far.

Volcano stops trip

Due to the recent volcano, Kiri’s husky trip (17th-24th April 2010) has been cancelled. The ash made it impossible for the husky group to fly out to Lapland, and the weather conditions are now unsuitable for the trip.

Kiri will be re-booking the husky trail as soon as insurance monies come through.

The trip will go ahead in December 2010 at the earliest and April 2011 at the latest.

Thank you all for your support, and please be patient for photos!

Do you want to abseil off a 110ft building?

In March, we will be throwing people off the Debuty Prime Minister’s building in Vauxhall to raise money for WaterAid. If you would like to get involved, all you need to do is raise at least £10 for the charity. If you shop around, you will find that normal abseils cost around £150+. But seeing as I have my very own abseiling instructor as my boyfriend, we can bring it to you for a discount rate.

All money goes to the charity, as the building and climbing instructors are giving their services for free.

If you fancy walking down the side of a building, just send Matt an email at matt@greatnewadventures.co.uk with your full name and number, and amount you would like to donate. Alternatively you can give him a call on 07879898582.

Best of luck!

Alastair Gordon and Matthew O’Riordan to run 10km!

A few months ago I had some new neighbours move in. Anna and Al. They were fans of Bill and Ted, Saved by the Bell, Dr Who, and good mince pies, so we took to them immediately.

Now Al has decided to run 10km round Richmond Park in the COLD! My boyfriend Matt has stupidly agreed to run with him, so that’s two crazy men in the snow.

The run takes place on 18th January. The idea is to get some extra sponsors to help me reach my WaterAid fundraising target of £3000.  If you would like to sponsor them, you can do so on my page www.justgiving.com/kiri. Remember to add a message, to let the guys know you are supporting them and not me.

If you would like to run with them and get sponsors yourself, just drop me an email.

Good luck boys!

Happy New Year! (and things for sale)

Happy New Year to all my husky followers.

My new year had a great start, as one of my merry friends convinced several happy drunkards to contribute to WaterAid. £70 raised right on the spot!

We also managed to raise £150 carol singing (thanks troops!) and another £30 at a car boot sale. It’s getting nearer to my deadline so I’m doing my own January sales. Would anyone like to buy:

An Eb Tenor Horn for £100

Eb Vintage alto horn

The horn is vintage, made 1974-1985. It is silver plated and has no visible knocks or scrapes. It was bought for me by an enthusiastic Dad, hoping I would play it. Sorry Dad!

A Drum Kit for £350

drums

This kit is a Cannon Scorpion in diamond blue. It comes with hi hat, crash symbol and ride symbol, bass drum, toms (3) and a snare that can change into an extra tom at the flick of a little lever. The kit cost £750 new.

Weirdly the seat and sticks have gone walkabouts, but they are not too expensive to purchase.

Let me know if you know anyone who would be interested. Money goes to WaterAid.

Christmas Carols!

This Wednesday (23rd December ’09) Kiri and friends will be outside Morrisons in Wimbledon, singing carols to get some festive pennies.

Please join us from 12 midday to 11pm. Come for an hour, or as long as you can brave the cold. I will be giving out mulled wine to those who are there from the start….latecomers might get some if there is any left!

Let me know if you can make it!

Top Gear: Polar Special

Click here to see Richard Hammond’s husky experience, from Top Gear.

Definitely worth a watch.

Aww!

Stress!

Ok, I’ve let things slide a little bit…
- my fitness (the podge has crept back into my belly)
- my fundraising efforts (got slightly sidetracked thinking about buying a houseboat)
- my calm exterior (I’m now completely freaking out)

Well, I thought it was time to get back on track. And I thought the best way to start that was to tell you that I am back in the game.

Wednesday night saw me sweating my little head off at a boxfit class, and my arms have still not recovered from the experience.

Some good news is that I was in the Wimbledon Post last month, though I haven’t found a copy to read yet! I am sure it was a glowing account of my beauty and bravery.

More to come soon…
